Global Vision on Emerging Tech and Health

Our world is rapidly transforming across all sectors with the introduction of emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, machine learning, blockchain and quantum computing. This transformation is not always even and faces different barriers in different organizations and parts of the globe.

José Arrieta is the former U.S. Health and Human Services Chief Information Officer and acting Chief Data Officer. He delivered the first live enterprise application of blockchain in the U.S. federal government and has been one of the most recognized leaders in vision and action bringing emerging technology to health in recent years. In this session he’ll shift his focus to the global impact that these tools can have on health and cooperation towards the SDGs around the globe.

    As the former CIO of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), José provided leadership and oversight of the Department’s IT portfolio in support of the Department’s expansive mission to enhance the health and well-being of Americans by providing for effective services and by fostering sound, sustained advances in science underlying medicine, public health, and social services. He led HHS-wide IT strategy with a focus on cybersecurity, cloud computing, and emerging technology. José advised and counseled the HHS Secretary and Deputy Secretary on how to advance the Department’s mission through the use of transformative information technology approaches.
    Prior to his time with HHS, José had over 15 years experience in policy, procurement and technology solutions. He has deep experience in all phases of the acquisition life cycle and has served in a broad range of roles including contracting officer, budget manager, financial manager, small business executive, ombudsman, and program manager. He is a respected leader in applying emerging technologies, especially blockchain, artificial intelligence and robotic process automation, to the acquisition processes and mission critical program challenges.
