About Goal Seventeen
Goal Seventeen publishes explainers on science, research and international cooperation in the service of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
What it publishes
Each article takes one subject: a research infrastructure such as a radio telescope or a biodiversity data network, a policy instrument such as an SDG target or an EU regulation, or a field where research and development goals meet, such as childhood cancer care or agricultural innovation. The aim is to explain what the thing is, how it works, who is responsible for it, and how it connects to specific SDG targets.
The audience is people who need a clear, sourced overview before going deeper: students, journalists, policy officers, researchers moving into a new field, and anyone curious about how global science is organised.
How the explainers are checked
- Facts, figures and dates come from primary sources: UN and WHO documents, the official texts of EU law on EUR-Lex, the websites of the research organisations concerned, and peer-reviewed literature. Those sources are linked in the text.
- When estimates differ between sources or editions of a report, the article says which one it uses, or gives a range.
- When a figure could not be confirmed, it is left out rather than approximated.
- Articles show their publication date, and the date of any substantial update.
What Goal Seventeen does not do
Goal Seventeen does not organise conferences or summits, does not publish programmes of events, and does not report on meetings it did not attend. It is not affiliated with the United Nations, any UN agency, the European Union or any of the organisations it writes about, and it does not use their names, emblems or logos as its own. It does not sell anything, does not accept paid placements, and does not offer medical or legal advice: articles on health data or privacy law explain the rules, they do not replace a data protection officer or a lawyer.
The texts are signed by the publication rather than by named authors.
About this domain
From around 2020 to 2022, the domain sciencedigitalunga75.com hosted the website of a virtual science summit held alongside the 75th session of the UN General Assembly in September 2020, with a programme of online sessions on science and the SDGs. Goal Seventeen has no connection with that summit, its organisers, its speakers or its partners. None of that website's text, images or logos is reused here. Some former addresses now carry new, original explainers on the broad subjects those sessions covered, or redirect to the closest one; they are not records of the sessions.
